FLP Road Maintenance Agenda and Requests

Forest Lakes Park Road Agenda

ROAD COMMITTEE MESSAGE

Road crew; Rachel Rushing, Kevin Fisher and Robert Sanborn

The FLP road maintenance agenda includes road drivability; washboard mitigation, sand traps and driveways/drainage issues. FYI, all numbered and lettered roads are deeded 30 ft roadways which includes the utilities easement, we endeavor to maintain about a 24 foot road width (sufficient for two vehicles) for the heavily trafficked areas. Most of the cross roads are one lane and only worked upon specific request from homeowners as time and funding allows. The regularly scheduled roads include 187th Terrace, 93rd Place, 93rd Lane, 189th Terrace, 92nd Lane, 95th Street, 92nd Place, 195th Avenue, 197th Avenue and part of 188th Court. These roads roughly form a two mile perimeter system that provides access to the additional three miles of the connecting roads.
Ideally, we would like to maintain the entire system uniformly but are limited by funds and staffing.
We are 100% volunteer and are always looking for additional sincere, qualified participants.
The primary requirements are that volunteers are current FLP residents, have a valid driver’s license (doesn’t have to be Florida issued), are physically able to operate the road equipment with training and agree to sign a Hold Harmless and safety rules form.
On that note, there are a few courtesies that all residents can perform to aid the road crew;
1. Slow down, the speed limit in the park is 15mph. Excessive speed endangers the road walkers, animals and other motorists as well as being the primary cause of wash boarding.
2. Make sure that the tractor operator sees you and makes eye contact before you pass, it’s difficult to hear anything except the exhaust and we are usually concentrating on the work in front of us.
3. Please don’t drive in the ditches, they are designed to channel water away from the road surface so we don’t have to drive through deep puddles. In most areas, there is sufficient width for two vehicles to pass, if not, be patient and let the other guy by.
4. Please secure your household trash from wildlife, the operator doesn’t have time to continually dismount and mount to move garbage from the roadway and plowing it into the road is not an option.
We feel that the roadway has improved over the recent months and with residents cooperation we can continue to move in that direction. We plan to bring in some better surfacing material for the worst areas and further develop drainage solutions.
